Volunteer Application Form
Monti Prenestini Summer 2023

  • Welcome to the Liminal Monti Prenestini volunteer application form!

We're excited that you're interested in joining us to tackle the challenges brought on by depopulation, disinvestment, and environmental stress in small municipalities located in the Lazio region of Italy. Liminal Lab and Digital Paths Monti Prenestini are initiatives aimed at supporting local communities and government authorities in the municipalities of Castel San Pietro Romano, Rocca di Cave and Capranica Prenestina.

These initiatives are funded through a NextGenerationEU grant won by the municipalities mentioned above. Their objective is to provide opportunities for community-driven development through initiatives that integrate education, research, and the realization of actionable projects. The program is shaped through the interaction with stakeholders involved in the territories of interest, guided by the team of professionals at Liminal .

As a volunteer with Liminal Lab and Digital Path Monti Prenestini, you will have the opportunity to work with a team of passionate and dedicated individuals who are committed to making a positive impact on these communities. You will be contributing to Liminal’s mission of reinforcing a model of poly-centric development that builds upon the country's historic settlement conditions, north to south.

In this application form, we will ask you to share some information about yourself, your interests, and your availability. This will help us to better understand your skills and match you with the right role within our team. Whether you're interested in architecture, landscape, urbanism, data science, or even wellness, we have a place for you.

Please take a few minutes to fill out this form to the best of your ability. Your participation in these initiatives will help us to transform underutilized infrastructure into places of learning and research while supporting the communities in which we operate.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Liminal APS and Liminal Lab Monti Prenestini, and we look forward to working with you!

  • Liminal Lab is a high intensity fieldwork experience that documents, analyzes and proposes solutions for the sustainable development of small communities. As an applied research program, it brings together students and local stakeholders to tackle intractable problems faced by communities through a multi-disciplinary approach.

The multi-disciplinary group of participating students has a knowledge base in urban design, landscape architecture, territorial mapping, graphic design/visual identity development, data visualization and coding.

As a volunteer, you will be performing support activities for the program, learning about the Liminal Lab methodology and some of the territorial regeneration tools being developed during this specific program.

  • The Digital Paths initiative will give a digital life and presence to the streets and paths of the municipalities of Monti Prenestini. The project aims to map the streets that wind through the historic centers of Monti Prenestini and key natural trails using 360-degree immersive digital cameras. It will also allow Liminal to train members of the local community and municipal technicians in 3D road mapping.

The objectives of the intervention are to increase the attractiveness of the towns, nature trails and eco-tourist itineraries in the area by increasing their digital visibility; and to equip the Monti Prenestini with a technologically advanced, but easy-to-use tool for monitoring its cultural heritage.

By conducting both technical and training activities in synergy, Liminal will create a true knowledge-sharing space, where technical tools will become civic knowledge for local communities. Liminal considers this a fundamental factor to support the socio-economic fabric of the territory.

As a volunteer, you will be able to learn about this methodology and its corresponding tools while providing general assistance to on-the-ground activities.

  • Liminal is a network of young professionals that work with local communities and government authorities to shape the future of rural areas of Italy struggling with depopulation and disinvestment. Liminal is an Italian non-profit organization with a stakeholder-focused approach. Its members share a strong belief in on-the-ground knowledge transfer and capacity building.

Liminal was born out of the desire to promote a prosperous, equitable and environmentally responsible future for the Italian territory. To its members, this means reinforcing a model of poly-centric sustainable development that builds upon the country’s historic settlement conditions, north to south.

We live in an age that requires us to reassess every assumption. How we work is changing. The ways we build community are changing. The behavior of our environment itself is changing, radically. Liminal was founded with a drive to reimagine the relevance of small cities and towns, and help transition them into the exciting, complicated future that lies ahead.
