This challenge is a research initiative focused on understanding topics of consensus between ultra-peripheric, peripheric and urban areas to inform policy on sustainable rural development and its linkages to climate change, landscape management, re-use and transition. With the twin issues of climate change and economic development, the project aims to survey local community members on critical future issues surrounding climate change, biodiversity, land management, policies, and demographics. The research will inform efforts to support rural communities and landscapes, regional government policies, and academic research.
Member engagement is three-part. Part one takes place online with challenge champions who will train members in survey data collection, data analysis, and other challenge objections. Part two takes place in Monti Prenestini, where members will conduct survey interviews with the community. Part three involves reviewing (online) the survey data to write a brief report that outlines research findings. Members will leave with skills in research design, data collection, data management, and communicating research for broader audiences. They will also contribute crucial information that will inform future research and policy efforts to support the future of local communities.
